A Constant Juggling Act: Being an Adult Student

September was a flurry of activity. I was so busy that I barely posted on Medium. It wasn’t intentional, but I couldn’t sit down and write. Between working two jobs, returning to school, and handling home stuff, I lost the energy to write consistently.

As of this writing, it’s the 8th day of October. This is my first Medium post. I had wanted to begin again on the 1st, but work and classes kept me busy. At this moment, it’s quiet, raining, and soft music is playing. I’m alone — just me and my thoughts. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on Medium.

As I mentioned, I’ve returned to school, and while I love it, it’s been hectic. Three days a week, I’m on campus — listening to lectures, learning how to create affirming classrooms, and writing fiction stories. In between classes, I have a ton of homework — articles, research papers, and novels to read and write about. It’s so much!

But I’m glad I’ve returned to school. It’s been on my mind for five years. And actually, I wanted to return to school to obtain my doctorate. But then COVID struck, and the world went on lockdown. Attending school didn’t seem like the best move at the time. As COVID eased and the world entered a new “normal,” other priorities prevented me from making the shift to full-time…
