New Orleans Needs More than Thoughts and Prayers

2025 has barely begun, and it’s already acting up significantly. At 3:15 AM New Orleans time, Shamshun Din Jabbar drove a rented white pickup truck into a crowd of revelers, killing ten and injuring over 30 people.

Just hours after bringing in the new year, New Orleans, like any other major city, was basking in the camaraderie and excitement. When Jabbar drove the truck around a police cruiser and straight into a crowd. People ran for cover, ducking into bars and restaurants to avoid the rampaging vehicle. But many partygoers weren’t so fortunate.

As the police descended on the vehicle, Jabbar exited the truck, shooting at police officers and injuring two of them. The officers returned fire and killed Jabbar at the scene. It was said that a black ISIS flag was attached to the back of the truck. Local, state, and federal investigators came to the scene, searching the vehicle and Jabbar’s body. It was later determined that Jabbar’s actions were an act of terrorism.

Welcome to 2025, America. It’s not the immigrants or migrants we must worry about; it’s our citizens. Yes. Jabbar was a citizen born and raised in Texas. It was also learned that he served in the army for over ten years and later became involved in real estate. He was 42 and married, but his wife had a restraining order against him.

What happened to Jabbar? How was he radicalized? Why did he commit such a heinous act? Since the police killed…
